MEET THE SWAGGA MAMA
Sheebah Karungi is a Ugandan recording artist and dancer. Crowned Female Artist of the Year at the prestigious awards HiPipo Awards (2017), Sheebah has been at the top of her game since her debut into the industry with the renowned all-girl dance group; Obsessions. She is currently ruling airwaves across the region with her latest release Nkwatako featuring Nigerian artist Solidstar. She makes her debut on Coke Studio Africa 2017 paired alongside Asgegnew Ashko from Ethiopia.
Starting her professional career in 2006 with Obsessions, Sheebah has successfully branched out, releasing multiple hit tracks. In 2010, she released her first official single Kunyenyenza produced by Washington. She went on to release Bulikyekola featuring KS Alpha and Baliwa with Coco Finger. Sheebah also teamed up with Sizzaman for her the popular hits Automatic and Ice Cream, which got massive airplay and positive reviews. Her debut music project was “Ice Cream”, a 5-track EP that dropped in 2014. It did well commercially causing her to win back-to-back music awards for Best Female Artist in 2014. In 2016, Sheebah released her latest album, “Nkwatako”.
Sheebah’s successful music career has seen her earn nominations for Best African Female Artist at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (2016) and four nominations at the 4th annual HiPipo Awards in Uganda. She has also won Best Female Artist at the Zzinna Awards (2016) and Uganda Entertainment Awards (2016).
Sheebah Karungi was born and raised in Kawempe, Uganda. After completing her education at Kawempe Muslim Primary School, she joined Midland High School. At the age of 15, she started dancing and joined a dance group called Stingers before she left the group for Obsessions, in 2006. It was at Obsessions that she developed an interest in music, recording two songs before she left the group to launch her solo career.
